In order to complete the game, one simply needs to touch a torch, which lights a match, and touch the chandelier above, which will instantly fall and kill the monster. Although the monster will approach the player and both the player and the monster can fire projectiles, neither can cause any permanent harm to each other. At this point, the player enters a chamber with a large monster called the Grinning Colossus. The player is informed that there is a boss at the end of the hall, that their weapons are useless, and that in order to beat the boss, they have to burn the rope. The player starts by walking down a tunnel, with the credits and instructions on the surrounding walls. You Have To Burn The Rope is an extremely short game.
